One hundred-fifty people eager to learn how they might become successful homebuyers attended an orientation session on Thursday, October 15 sponsored by Community Housing Innovations, Century 21 Adams Real Estate, and the Town of Babylon. They came at one of the best times to buy on Long Island, with interest rates at record lows and housing prices that have not fully recovered from the financial crisis.
CHI is administering about $600,000 in down payment assistance from the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation and seeking qualified homebuyers for $25,000 grants.
“The grants are why you came,” said CHI executive director Alexander Roberts, “but the most valuable service we offer is education and counseling, which will insure your success.”
In order to promote “responsible home ownership,” Century 21 Adams is offering $50 scholarships to qualified Long Island homebuyers towards the $99 education course and counseling offered by CHI.
“Fifty dollars is a small price to pay for the power and peace of mind that comes with education. As realtors and buyer’s brokers, we want our customers to have the tools they need to make the right choice in what is likely to be their biggest investment.”
CHI Homeownership now has an array of homebuyer services, from low-interest loans that can reduce the down payment to as little as one percent, to a First Home Club that gives you four dollars for every dollar you save, to a bank-approved first-time homebuyer course you can take entirely online.
