WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

CHI is looking for a Part-time Rental Supplement Program Counselor for our Nassau location. This position will include travel and field related work. Great opportunity at a growing non-profit agency for the right candidate. Help us grow our Housing Retention Services in Nassau County. This is accomplished by performing the following functions:

 

  • Respond to referrals via HMIS and collaborate with referring agencies to collect and upload client eligibility information.
  • Prepare initial, annual, and interim income certifications as outlined by Suffolk County’s HUD CoC funded programs.
  • Work with new clients, including initial discussions, completion of all intake forms and review of financial documents.  Execute basic math skills.
  • Contact all participating households at least once every three months regarding moves, changes in household composition or monthly income, budgeting issue and supportive services.
  • Responsible for all required reporting and compliance – cases must be managed in accordance with New York State requirements; including database and file management.
  • Experience working with clients experiencing homelessness/residing in shelter.
  • Knowledge of the local housing market and available resources.
  • Conduct annual unit inspections to ensure housing quality standards are met for potential participants.
  • Contact landlords to mediate Housing Quality Standard issue, lease renewal and potential client repayment plans.
  • Connect clients with needed and available community resources. Follow-up with clients and agencies as appropriate to document use/success of the referral.
  • Maintain up-to -date records in AWARDS and HMIS. Document all interactions in a clear and concise manner.
  • Establish good working relationships with referring agencies.
  • Represent the company with community outreach and events.
  • Remain up to date with industry standards and increase professional and technical skills through continuing education annually

WHAT DO I NEED?

 

  • Education:  Bachelors’ Degree in a related field preferred. Extensive experience may be substituted for educational requirement.
  • Experience:  Basic knowledge and understating of Federal, State and local homeless and housing programs and rental subsidies.
  • Communication:  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Proficiency in English required. Bi-lingual (Spanish} is a plus.
  • Computer Skills:  Basic competency in MS Windows, MS Office, and on the Internet. Math Skills: Must be excellent.
  • Physical Performance:  Walking upstairs, driving, and set up conference rooms.
  • Reasoning Ability:  Ability to prioritize, make appropriate decisions and judgment calls.
  • Other Skills:  Ability to work independently or as part of a team, be highly organized, assume responsibility, work well under pressure, meet deadlines, multitask, be flexible, and maintain a high level of attention to details. Must be even­ tempered, have good negotiation skills, and the ability to meet unexpected deadlines.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

CHI is looking for per diem Resident Support Specialists (RSS) for one of our Newburgh locations.

The Resident Support Specialist ensures the safety and security of all clients, visitors, staff and property.  This is accomplished by performing the following functions:

  • Maintains visibility to residents by wearing Safety Monitor vest and ID badge, and inspects site through regular tours of the property.  Reviews video cameras and monitors area consistently.
  • Enforces CHI, site and DSS policies, regulations and rules with residents.
  • Provides limited crisis intervention to residents when necessary until CHI professional staff Case Managers, Program Managers or Director of Emergency Housing is able to be contacted and/or intervene.  Contacts supervisor and/or the proper authorities as needed.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation accurately throughout shift, i.e. turn-over, census, logs, incident reports, case notes, etc.
  • Conducts unit inspections in accordance with OTDA/DSS standards by physically entering each unit to insure proper attendance is recorded.
  • Accepts resident referrals and reviews rules and regulations with new arrivals including but not limited to the rule of 2 bags per person upon intake.  Perform bag searches upon intake, and as required by bag search requirement protocol.
  • Submits all internal and external reports in a timely and correct manner as required by funding agencies and/or CHI (logs, notes, incident reports).  Maintains logs, office and site in an orderly fashion.
  • Support afterschool/evening activities as needed.  Provide oversight of outdoor and recreational events.
  • Informs Building Superintendent of work site’s physical condition (i.e. dangerous conditions, possible repair needs, supply needs, etc.).
  • Preps vacant units for new placements.
  • Maintains proper usage of cleaning supplies and inventory
  • Facilitates and documents evacuation procedures,( i.e. fire drills) as directed by Program Manager
  • At the direction of CHI staff (Program Manager or Director of Emergency Housing), acts as a liaison between the agency and the community at large.
  • Other duties may be assigned by management as needed to ensure the successful operation of the program.

WHAT DO I NEED?

  • Education:  High School Diploma or GED preferred. 1-2 years of experience in a related field may be substituted for high School diploma or GED equivalent.

    Experience:  1-2 years of experience working in related field preferred; if candidate has High School Diploma, GED or higher no work experience is required.

  • Communication:  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Proficiency in English required. Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus.
  • Reasoning Ability:  Ability to prioritize, make appropriate decisions and judgment calls, and perform proper notifications.
